TMM Films and Staffordshire University Film Club

image

This August we’ve been filming our 5th film in partnership with Staffs Uni. Each year The Maclagan Men sponsor a short film and shot it on 16mm film. It gives the student some real experience of working with professionals and a greater understanding of what movie making is all about. With film they have to be a lot more disciplined and accurate simply because it is so much more expensive to work with. This year we invited Chris Maris a feature film director now living in Sweden, as an ex graduate Chris brought that touch of the movies to the set. The film called The Black Knight is due to be finished by the end of September.

In the picture Kathy Plaskitt and Alex Mallender shoot the Black Knight’s tower in Goole using the s16 Bolex.

Promo video on 5D

image

Shooting a short promo near Preston using a Canon 5D. To be honest I’m still not convinced. The end footage looks fantastic and that depth of field look is smashing. But the shoot itself is a real fiddle especially not having a second monitor to direct with while the camera op is shooting. Post is a pain having to sync all the shots and edit. I wonder if all the hassel is worth the end result. For me I’m still undecided.

In collaboration with Unique Media Production and ResolutionDV in Stockport we are going to be producing a brand new website for Staffordshire University. The could be a very big project demanding a combination of slick graphics and high quality video to attract new students to the suite of Media courses at Staffs Uni.

Anderson West has been working on a major new video for Derby University over the past 2 months. The video is designed to explain the rules to undergraduates living in halls. Made in a ‘Big Brother’ style Anderson is creating a reality tv feel to the programme. “I wanted to give the students a real feel for the halls” says Anderson “we spent 3 days auditioning to find actors who really gelled as flatmates” The finished programme is due to go on line in September ready for the new freshers in 2011.
